During the thirteen and fourteenth centuries the lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea were home to a number
of countries but also city states who vied for dominance of trading routes in the area. The fiercest rivals at this time were the Republic of Genoa and the Republic of Venice located on different sides of modern day Italy. During the four major periods of fighting, mainly at sea and
interspersed with smaller skirmishes, either side was aided by an alliance of other parties. The wars came to an end with an exhausted
and broke Venice suing for peace.
In these Mediterranean games, you are
on the Venetian side and have been tasked by the chief magistrate
and leader of Venice to protect the city state and claim victory
over the Genoese in its trade war. Full instructions on how to
play are given in the game.
